Elk hunting with The Flying B Ranch
August 30 to December 9

Three Rivers country lies in the heart of Idaho where the Lochsa, Selway and Clearwater rivers have carved their paths through a landscape of extraordinary beauty. It's the classic rugged terrain of the Northern Rockies— steep-sided slopes blanketed with thick forests, vast brush fields and alpine meadows; a mosaic habitat created in the early part of the century by catastrophic fires. To even the casual observer, this appears to be exceptional habitat for Idaho's prized big game animals — including the Rocky Mountain Elk.

The Flying B Ranch holds exclusive outfitting rights to over 740,000 acres of the Clearwater and Nez Perce National Forests under special use permit from the United States Forest Service.

Big game guides at the Flying B Ranch are the best in the business. All our guides are well-seasoned hunters in top physical condition with multiple years guiding experience and wilderness exposure.

Combination Options

As elk herds near historic highs on a statewide basis, predation by black bears and mountain lions remains the most important and immediate mortality factor for elk calves in many of our hunt areas. Annual calf mortality rates range from 37 to 52 percent by black bears, while mountain lions account for 33 to 50 percent. Many elk hunters enjoy the opportunity to combine the harvest of a bear, cougar and/or deer during their quest for that coveted trophy elk.

Black Bear & Elk
Idaho Fish and Game Department estimates populations of black bears at 2 1/2 bears per square mile in our hunting territory. Bear hunting can be excellent at several of our campsites in early elk season, and hunters may have the opportunity to take a nice bear.
Reduced Bear Tag fee: $31.75
Cougar & Elk
Populations of mountain lion are so plentiful in the Clearwater and Nez Perce National Forests that each hunter is allowed to harvest two cats throughout most of our territory.
Reduced Cougar Tag fee: $31.75
Harvesting a deer while elk hunting is a favorite combination for many of our hunters. Although we hunt whitetail and mule deer from our 4,200 acre ranch, many of the deer taken with the Flying B Ranch are harvested on one of our many backcountry hunts. You may purchase the necessary tag of each species at the time of your initial reservation.

Deer Tag Fee: $258.50
