Joseph Peterson

Return to Staff Page

Joseph began his hunting career in central Minnesota’s oak wood and corn field patchwork and the state’s darkly forested great northern swamp. He left Minnesota in his late teens to become the foreman of a construction company in South Texas.

His hunting talents came to the attention of hunting outfitters and ranchers in the big-antlered South Texas whitetail country. Ranchers sought him out to lead doe culling operations on their ranches. His ability to judge the age of does in the field was valued in managing quality deer herds.
In the late 1980’s he left his construction company in Texas to pursue big game hunting in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness with Coolwater Outfitters in Lowell, Idaho. He hasn’t come out of the woods much since.

Joseph migrated to the Flying B in 1996, when the Ranch purchased Coolwater Outfitters and began working part-time as a guide. When the Flying B Ranch bought another back country outfit, Joseph signed on as the ranch’s Big Game Manager overseeing the ranch’s back country operations.

Today, as Operations Manager for the Flying B, Joseph oversees all the diverse operations of the ranch companies. With the increase in the past couple years in responsibilities at the ranch, he doesn’t spend as much time in the back country as he would like; nevertheless, he still fits in quality hunting time.
