Idaho Retreat

The Flying B Ranch, located in enchanting Lawyer Canyon, provides the perfect environment for a true Northwest Retreat for corporate groups, families and individuals. The Ranch is nestled in six miles of breathtaking canyon, encompassing 4,200 acres of richly historic and isolated wildlife habitat in North Central Idaho.

The Nez Perce and Clearwater National Forests, with their steep slopes and majestic views, are the backdrop for our water excursion retreat packages, including whitewater rafting on the famous Lochsa River, float trips on the lower Salmon River, and whitewater jet boat trips on the upper Snake and Salmon Rivers.

No matter the adventure you choose, you will return to the Flying B Lodge to relax amid western warmth and the vast natural beauty of the Northwest. The lounge offers a big-screen television, a full-size billiard table, and a fully stocked bar with top-shelf liquor. Take in a sauna, soak in the Jacuzzi, or book a massage before or after dinner.

Ranch Activities
April - August

Horseback Riding

Lawyer Creek Canyon encompasses six miles of extraordinary beauty! Lewis and Clark left their horses here in the Canyon with Twisted Hair and Broken Arm, Nez Perce Indians, before they took to the river in canoes to paddle to the mouth of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean. When they returned here to Broken Arm's lodge, they camped for three days on the lower flat, staying in Indian tipis. The canyon is named for Chief Lawyer, Twisted Hair's son.

Jeep Tours

Humans and animals have treasured this canyon's rich environment from ancient times to the present. The breathtaking views and rich history of the canyon come alive as you are guided through our trails on horseback, or if you prefer a bit faster pace, we offer Jeep tours of the Ranch as well.

Sporting Clays

Spend part of your day shooting sporting clays, another favorite activity at the Flying B Ranch. Our 10-station course was designed by Jon Kruger, a World Sporting Clays Champion. With shooting instruction from our experienced wingshooting guides, our course is enjoyed by both the novice and experienced shooter.

A day spent in the presence of Lawyer Canyon enjoying the enriching activities at the Flying B is the perfect prelude to an evening of fellowship, stories, and the exquisite cuisine awaiting you back at the Lodge.

The Lochsa River, located in North Central Idaho’s Clearwater National Forest, is one of the most dramatically stunning rivers in the Northern Rockies. The steep green cedar and fir forested slopes are teaming with wildlife. The river corridor roars in excitement during the spring snow run-off. The section of the Lochsa that you will raft has a gradient, or drop, of about 40 feet per mile. The rapids contain large standing waves and incredible circulating holes. Our one-day trip covers about 22 miles and 40 class III-IV+ rapids. Included with the trip is a full lunch on the banks of the river and a wetsuit, booties, helmet, etc. to wear in the boat.

This is not a spectator’s sport. There is no time for fishing on this trip and no alcohol is allowed. You’ll have both hands on the paddle helping your team navigate the river.

Float Trips
July-August
The Lower Salmon River Gorge is sometimes called the "canyons" section of the "River of No Return.” It flows northerly between the Camas Prairie and the Joseph Plains. This is the second deepest canyon in America and affords a remarkable river adventure.
The landscape of the river basin is formed by the volcanic rocks of the Seven Devils group and the lava flows of Columbia River Basalt. The river trip passes through the Green Canyon portion of the famous "River of No Return." The float covers about 12 miles from the launch at Hammer Creek to the take-out at Pine Bar. A relaxed pace is interspersed with great rapids like Roller Coaster, Big Foot Island, Demon’s Drop, and Wright’s Way Drop. The water is relatively warm, and there are giant white sand beaches where you will stop for lunch.

Choose to pilot an inflatable raft or a kayak (provided), or sit on the bow of a guided raft (kayaks are inflatable like in photo). Enjoy the custom river trip of your choosing.

Whitewater Power Boat
April-August

Whitewater Jet Boating on the Salmon & Snake Rivers: Rapids called Snow Hole, The Slide, and Sluice Box…Waterspout, Granite Creek and Wild Sheep, and a hundred others make the Salmon and Snake Rivers of Hells Canyon the premier whitewater jet boating in North America. The rivers are wild; the scenery, history and wildlife unforgettable. We will take you where others cannot. See and experience ancient history, petroglyphs and pictographs out of reach of other outfitters. This is an in-depth and personalized trip.
A minimum group size of six people is required for this adventure.

Lewis and Clark Tours
April-October

North Central Idaho contains the greatest concentration of Lewis & Clarks sites in the nation, and the expedition's route runs directly past the front door of the Flying B Lodge. Here at Treaty Council Camp, Captain Meriwether Lewis struck the first treaty between the United States government and the Nez Perce people. The Nez Perce set up a special tipi for the captains at the site. The chief of the village, whom Lewis called Broken Arm, greeted the Corps with a fifteen-star American flag flying from a tall staff in front of his 150-foot long lodge. Today you can stand on the site of the lodge and experience this historical event. Follow the Corps a short distance to the Clearwater River and listen to tales of their stay at Long Camp, the third longest stay of the entire expedition as they waited nearly a month for the snows to melt from the Lolo Trail across the Bitterroot Mountains. The Flying B Ranch, the Kamiah Valley, Clearwater County, Lolo Trail: North Central Idaho is Lewis & Clark Country at is undisturbed best.
